So, it's been six months since the last gig...
Talk about time flying!
No, we weren't slacking off and flattening our asses. Rather, spent the last six months preparing and recording two demos for promo and one cover for a compilation that's coming out in September. Oh and, of course, working on some new songs in the studio as well. It was enough to keep us busy, I guess.
Anyway, us five aozoans had our second gig at Wild Side Tokyo on July 5th.
We gathered up at 3pm at the venue (run by our friend, actually) for soundcheck. While waiting, we endulged in some bagel ice-cream (each had a different flavored ice-cream sandwiched in a soft bagel) to cool down from the muggy heat. Our soundcheck went rather smoothly and we were outside in an hour or so.
We decided to spend time before the show at a 'family restaurant' twenty steps away from the venue. What can I say? We lazy asses didn't want to cross the street for some hamburgers. We were all sort of full so ordered only drinks....except for Sakk. He had beer with a salad and an order of fried chicken and some fries. Ah, an early starter maybe? It was funny watching Numa staring at the glass of beer enviously. In the end, the thirsty man got a sip. The clock struck 6pm and, this time, Yusan got up p from his chair saying, "I'm going to get my hair cut. I'll be back before our stage." And off he went with the rest of us laughing our hearts out. Man, I love this band! The leftovers, shall I say, went back to the venue half an hour later to watch the first band.
It was a special night, personally, because the first band that played that night was my ex-bassist's band, Balim, a three-piece rock band with KaORI on bass, her cute little brother on guitar vocals and the sweet-hearted Ucchi on drums. I think it was the fourth time to see them play, each time better than the last. And to watch KaORI speak into a microphone to introduce the band and the songs! Now, that was unthinkable in DaTURA. I had the wildest grin on my face throughtout their performance. It really psyched me up for aozoa.
After Balim, we all went back stage to yap and get ready. Have to admit, I was a little worried if I could fit into Midori's clothes (yes, I borrowed the shiny outfit from her that night), but, luckily, the top was a one-size-fit-all and the leathery tights were 'stretchable'. Numa kept on commenting on how Midori with her black outfit and me with the tights reminded him of "Cat's Eye". So where's the third chick? Yusan came running in at around 8:20pm and not only was his hair set, but it was also colored! There was another big laugh for that.
aozoa was the fourth band to perform that night. The set list goes as follows:
1. a little too late
2. a quiet morning
5. the fall
The only problem I had was that my mouth / throat was so dry that I had to gulp down water after every song, but, other than that, I had a blast! All five of us aozoans did. Maybe the six month wait made it even more exciting. I hope it was for everyone else.
The after party went on till 4 in the morning. Been a while since we did that one. The sun was already lighting the sky when I got home. What a manic Monday...I probably wasn't the only one that cursed having to go to work that morning.
